Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscribers are about to be treated to another N64 classic. The subscription service will add Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Stadium on April 12.
Probably the best "my first Pokemon game" would be Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee which came out for Switch several years ago. Can't go wrong with either one, the version differences are pretty minor - in those games, it basically boils down to whether your main partner is Pikachu or Eevee (and you can catch the other one later on).
The opponent probably used Protect. That's the only thing in that game that would cause Swift to miss, IIRC. No (it was Stadium and not Stadium 2, Protect didn't exist in Gen 1) but good guess. In gen 1 Pokémon all moves that say they have 100% accuracy really have a 1 in 256 chance of missing.
