Recently I purchased a '06 Ducato van and the ignition has been changed out with a starter switch and push ignition start button. Key for the barrel still needed for the steering lock. I'm not sure at all what they've done to it electronically.. Obviously before purchase I did a Is It Stolen check and believe they genuinely lost the key.
Try both fobs. You also say that you have to put the fob in the slot for the car to see it. This is a totally separate problem. there is a transponder in the fob, it could be the glass type or plastic, I donât know, but this is not connected to the fob battery in any way.
